1.Kinja employees are now allowed to enter you house and remove dairy from your fridge

2. The "Kinja" name is now copyrighted so every time you use it $1 must be placed in the curse box

3. If North Korea wants to read restricted Kinja files and documents they must ask politely first.

4. Kinja is love, Kinja is life.

Trust me, I'm a lawyer (really)

But notice how it tells you to read the official statement, which is what's confusing me.

Basically, what it says is that you'll be fined $150 if you don't apply to UIUC.

A friend, who is also a lawyer said never to trust anyone who said "Trust me, I'm a lawyer." He also, then ended the statement by saying "Trust me, I'm a lawyer."

Right, which is why I shared the post http://legal2015.kinja.com/privacy-policy… which is Kinja Legal's official summary.

Was going to ask the same thing.

I think it says that they reserve the right to doxx you and use your comments against you if you ever run for politics.

I think that it pretty much boils down to: Gawker can use your name and info however it wants to in order to make money; they can sell your contact info to whomever they like in order to make money; anything at all that you post on Gawker becomes theirs and they can do with it as they please, including make money off it, without your permission or having to pay you any royalties. (Disclaimer: I didn't read it closely, but that's all pretty par for the course. Also, I'm not a lawyer. Nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.)

I haven't read them, but here's my best guess. "We the powers that be, rulers of Kinja and all related domains of the land, do hereby decree that any content submitted to this group of sites now belongs to us, and no matter how many times a story is posted, read, tweeted, facebooked, intagrammed or otherwise shared, we, the masters of Gawker Media, do not have to pay you. eThis is especially true of you user "gamecat." Despite the fact your SR-71 story is now internet legend, gaining over a bazillion views, we will never, ever, in this life, the next or even the one after that, have to pay you or any of you worthless contributors a single penny. Fuck all of you and your pathetic lives....

Love,

Nick Denton.

P.S. You all make me want to retch. Watch this ad.

To clarify, the blackbird post was a throwaway copypasta bit just to reshare the story.

Now the cumulative hours I've spent moderating this space?

But you can't put a price on love... (wait a second)

Oh sure... I'm just saying that while monetizing those nearly 400k views would be interesting, it required virtually no effort on my part and was something which was shared previously on Gizmodo (in slightly abridged form).

Also, at no point did I think, gee, I should get something for this... Now, if I'd been a smart cookie, I would have created my own space when I put up pictures about either of the AMARG 5k's or the SR-71 pictures from the PAASM, but instead, it all went through Oppo, because this place is cool. I never tried to capitalize on any of the times I've had content shared, because it was just stuff I did, or took pictures of, and the thrill of being shared was neat enough for me. Though in those cases, I specifically created content, and if I ever find them elsewhere, I'll treat it differently. Because that content is legally still mine, by publishing it on Kinja, I've only given up the right for standard users or employees of Gawker Media to share the content.

Just like I have been putting up daily music posts over on Backtalk for the last nearly two months to teeny tiny audiences... I'm not looking for a payday or for attention, generally I'm just looking for a conversation and a method to kill some time.

Bottom line...you are the best kind of internet employee...unpaid. I'm not trying to be a troll, I see oppo stuff (foxtrotalpha, truckyeah) all over the place online these days. reddit, digg etc....just seems like a lot of traffic generated without a lot of credit being given where it is due. the least they could do is send you a t-shirt or something.

If I wanted to capitalize on it, I know how I would do it. I don't, I'm lazy, and they expect some people to be like me. Others, like Doug, Steve Lehto, Tom, and others saw an opportunity to use Oppo as a springboard, and jumped.

It wouldn't be that hard to do, you just need the right angle, the right ability to self-promote, and a willingness to accept failure if you try and don't succeed. I've already got a more than full time job. I don't need another one.

ETA: I'm not disagreeing, in the slightest, more presenting a rationale for why I am not worried about it. Consistently producing entertaining content can be a chore, I've had to do it before, I would so much rather do it on my own terms, and Kinja gives me an outlet for it in an environment with people I like (which, BTW, is why I choose BackTalk for the music posts).

I have always assumed that Kinja (there goes $1) is gathering all of my comments to gain a picture of me that can be used by the NSA or to sell me crap. I know that they can tell (if they have been watching) my gender, city, state, and approximate age. And I am using a Burner account.

Backtalk.kinja.com it's technically a user created space which has no attachment to any other blog. The primary community members hail from mostly other community blogs (groupthink, observationdeck, and Clashtalk mostly).
